IT'S OKAY TO BE ME.

It's okay to be me. To enjoy
being an athlete and to enjoy
spending time with good friends
and my family.

It's not about where the party is at,
wanting to look cool or be cool. It's
not about fitting in with the other
kids.

I am who I am and I like who I am.
I like hanging out with my friends,
going to the movies and giving
everything I have to my sport.

Not everything comes easy or is
easy despite how it may look.

It's okay to say no to the unsure
or the certainty of knowing it's
just not okay to do.

It's okay to follow my path because
it's okay to be me.

Be a SMART GIRL - think about
it and be true to who you are.

SMART Girl

Boosting Girls Self-Esteem

Tressa Young is on a crusade to boost girls self-esteem and will be
running a new program in August titled “Smart Girl”.  SMART
GIRL is 2-tiered with FREE speaking engagements at elementary
schools and a longer program where girls meet to cover many topics.

Girls from grade 4 to grade 8 will meet once a week to discuss body
image, peer pressure, school pressure, healthy eating and positive
self-worth.  The program will have girls learning to communicate
through games, drawing, body language and positive assertiveness.
Not only will they be discussing friends, media and life choices, they
will also learn how to deal with bullying and learn self-defence.

“I understand the pressures and difficulties of being a pre-teen/teen.
I thought of this program knowing that sometimes all a girl needs is
another girl who is a positive role model to talk to.  My goal is not to
talk at the girls in the program but to engage them to discuss and
understand positive self-esteem, body image, school-related pressures
and more “, Tressa stated.

“It’s about being pro-active rather than reactive.  It’s important to reach
these girls before they enter high school.  I want them to know they have
positive choices to make like not smoking, not drinking, not doing drugs
and not having sex.  About being proud to be themselves and about
knowing there are choices” Tressa continued.

Tressa Young, second degree black belt holding world titles, believes that
engaging girls at the elementary age with this program will help prepare
them for the pressures of high school and life.
